What is the Catalan? What are the Catalan Countries (els Països Catalans)? They are much more than the frustrated wish of independentisme. More than El Barça. More than Barcelona in summertime or a beach in Mallorca.

 

The Catalan language is an estat d'ànim (state of mind), a state that marks a unique identity. The identity shared by Dalí, Guadí and Miró. The identity shared in 2015 by a Pakistani immigrant from El Raval in Barcelona, a farmer from the fields of the Ebro, an Andorran cleaning the snow off his porch, or an elderly lady on the island of Mallorca enjoying the April sun. An identity shared even by an Italian living in Alghero (did you know that Catalan is also spoken in Italy?). And, in the last decade, an identity of the Catalans in exile all over the world due to the financial crisis.

 

Do you want to experience the xafagor (scorcher) of Barcelona without language issues and be the favorite guy in the bar across the road, because you’ll order un tallat instead of un cortado*?
